Why I Don't Sunbathe Anymore

I’m going to start this off by being honest and telling you there was a time when I sunbathed frequently (several times a week) and actually used tanning beds. The horror, I know. My freshman year of college, there was a beauty event I attended. Among the activities was a dermatologist who would take each of us one by one into a pitch-black room and inform us of the sun damage we possessed. When I got into the dark room, I was not nervous at all. When she turned on the light I looked at my face in the mirror. My face? A deep black color indicating that my skin had been scorched and had a lot of sun damage. From that moment on, I decided to get my act together and not cause additional problems for myself. So much damage just to be tan. What an idiot I was, and the potential risk is certainly not worth the little extra color. The best way to get that tan is to go the sunless route. In order to get a flawless, beautiful tan, there are a couple of steps I would recommend. This isn’t just a product you slap onto your skin. There’s a method to getting the best application and also a method that will help the tan last longer. Let’s dive in!
Application Process 1. I like to exfoliate the skin first, so anytime I’m considering using this mousse I jump in the shower and lather myself with my favorite coffee scrub. It moisturizes the skin and preps it for the next step.
2. I like to shave my legs after the exfoliation so they're silky smooth.
3. Once I've dried off, I pump the mousse into my hand and smooth it evenly over my skin. Since my right hand is a little more flexible than my left, I am able to apply on my back, too, without having to coerce my boyfriend into helping me.
4. Use sparingly around the elbows, knees and ankles. Since this dries in 60 seconds, make sure to stay in place for just enough time to let it dry.
5. After you’re done applying, wash your hands. 
The color is going to develop instantly and deepen over the next several hours, which is amazing. The formula dries in 60 seconds flat, which I’ve never heard of and makes it so much easier to go about my day if I’m running errands or doing things around the house.  It's recommended that you use this once for natural-looking color and repeat the next day if you want a deeper color. I like that this is buildable. Due to the fact that this is a light tanning mousse, it won’t be intense or turn you into an undesirable color.
 

This tanning mousse is available in light bronze and deep bronze at Target. Because I'm on the lighter skin-tone spectrum, I decided to get the light bronze. It suits me perfectly and isn't too intense, but it brings my skin to life and I look beautifully bronzed in a natural way.
