You know those weekends you want to just get away, but you want to go somewhere close by?
Well we had one of those feels last weekend and decided to go see a few of my boyfriend's friends in Phoenix. I always forget just how big the entirety of Phoenix is..because truthfully it's not just Phoenix. There's quite a few cities in the area and the population is much larger than just 'Phoenix.'
We got lucky in that it was Arizona Restaurant Week so we decided to give The Arrogant Butcher a try! We each started off with our own appetizers of hummus; that was incredible. The pita was warm and the hummus delicious. For my entree I got the chicken and crab; he ordered the beef stew, and I have to admit I was extremely sad with my entree and wanted all of his. The crab was not tasty and I wouldn't order the dish again but the chicken was excellent.
Now if you follow me on the Instagrams, you've seen this delectable image. This was their blueberry cheesecake and it was absolutely divine.
After eating all of that food (and not eating much at all during the day) we were stuffed to the point that he passed out early and I was doing some blog tasks with a big ole food baby. The next morning seemed to come quick, but the sunrise was breathtaking. That's the thing about Arizona that I'll always love: sunsets and sunrises. There's nothing quite like it.
We walked to Matt's Big Breakfast (our favorite breakfast spot in Phoenix) and I refrained from taking 20 photos of my breakfast so I didn't embarrass my boyfriend more than necessary. He doesn't understand all of this blogging and vlogging stuff quite yet! We'll get there..eventually.
We gave it about an hour, and then decided it was time for a workout so we hit the hotel's gym. Made me feel much better about eating such a big and hearty breakfast. I eat a lot, huh?
We ended up having lunch at The Yard House with my boyfriend's sister, who is phenomenal company. She's a great conversationalist so we had a lot of humorous conversation over sandwiches, burgers and pasta. My pasta may seem plain with olive oil, peppers and such but it was yummy! Their fries are killer..highly recommend those bad boys.
Then we went across the way to a shop called Paris Gourmet that had the cutest macaroons. I'm a sucker for these things and ended up getting six. The Mr. ate one of them before I got my beautiful picture below, as I was yelling "no, no the picture THE PICTURE!"
His sister took us out for coffee as well; Dutch Bros has authentic coffee that's got a little extra Irish love in it. Mine was simple: iced coffee with Irish cream. It was delicious and not overly sweet, but definitely gave me a tummy ache after I drank it all in about 20 minutes. Maybe I should drink and eat a little bit slower so I stop making myself sick?
After the coffee, we spent some time with the sister and her husband. They have birds! Then we took off to hang out with other friends and we went out to a lovely steak house that evening. It was one of the best steaks I've probably ever had. I didn't take any pictures or get any vlog footage because we really wanted to enjoy being there in great company...plus being the photography maniac I have become I knew the lighting was no good.
On Sunday, we went to a local little cafe. Grabbed some coffees, bagels and then packed up all of our stuff. We ended up driving to a local bar to watch a little bit of the Lions game, then we went to Scottsdale Fashion Square. This was the most exciting part of the weekend for me because I made a big girl luxurious purchase, the first of its kind. Some Jimmy Choo sunnies and they are already my prized possession.
Anyway, it was definitely nice to get away and take a breather from the hustle and bustle. Because I blog and make YouTube videos while also working an intense day job, I do feel like I am constantly working. The workaholic in me says I have to be doing something at all times, you get me?
Have you ever been to Phoenix? What's your favorite thing to do in the city?
